A day after BJP leader Uma Bharti defended spiritual leader Asaram Bapu against charges of sexual assault on 16-year-old girl, BJP Vice President Prabhat Jha termed the allegation of rape against him as a "Congress conspiracy".
"Rape charge against Asaram Bapu is a well-planned Congress conspiracy," Mr Jha told reporters in Bhind today.
He alleged that Congress is increasingly getting upset and indulging in political conspiracies
against its opponents ahead of the 2014 elections.
On Thursday Uma Bharti came out in support of the spiritual guru. "Saint Aasaram Bapu is innocent. False cases have been lodged against him in Congress-ruled states. I am with saint Bapu," Ms Bharti said on her Twitter handle.
An FIR has been lodged against the gordman for allegedly raping a 16-year old girl in his ashram.
