Former Uttar Pradesh minister Avadhpal Singh Yadav and his son Ranjit Singh, who were wanted in several cases, including of rape and murder, today surrendered in a local court in Etah.
According to the counsel for the duo, they surrendered in the court of a civil judge in connection with several pending cases.
While Mr Yadav is a former animal husbandry minister in the previous BSP regime, his son is a zila panchayat member. They were both carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 each for their arrest.
Earlier, talking to his supporters, Mr Yadav claimed that both he and his son are innocent and have fallen prey to political conspiracy.
"We have full faith in the judiciary and are surrendering in the hope of getting justice," said Mr Yadav, who has 10 cases of murder, rape and corruption pending against him.
His son is a co-accused in two cases of rape and murder.
