Guwahati: One more tiger carcass found in Kaziranga National Park. The cat maybe facing its toughest battle of survival but there is some good news.
Remote cameras with motion sensors set in Dehing Patkai, a little known rainforest in Upper Assam, have captured seven species of wild cats, the highest number photo-documented so far anywhere in the world.
Caught on camera is a marbled cat on prowl, a species rarely photographed in the wild. Its habitat extends from Northeast India to Borneo and Sumatra in South-East Asia.
All these cats are endangered but to find them in one place is in itself unique.
The reserve is also home to a whole lot of other animal species and has a very good prey base. However, forest dwellings and illegal encroachment are fast threatening the wild cats.
