Chandigarh: Former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, serving an 18-month sentence in Ruchika Girhotra molestation case and lodged at Burail jail in Chandigarh, was on Sunday brought back to prison after a check up at PGIMER after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness.
68-year-old Rathore, who is a heart patient, was taken to PGIMER late Saturday night after he complained of breathlessness and discomfort in the chest. He was discharged early this morning after doctors found his condition stable, Additional IGP (Prisons) NPS Randhawa said.
He said Rathore was taken to PGIMER's emergency ward by the Burail jail authorities, where several tests were conducted on him and he was examined by senior cardiologists.
"After remaining there for about three hours, he was discharged early this morning after doctors found his condition stable. He was later taken back to Burail jail," the officer said.
After Rathore complained of uneasiness, a medical team was summoned from sector 16 government hospital, which referred him to PGIMER. Rathore was initially reluctant to be taken to PGIMER, but the jail authorities succeeded to convince him, Randhawa said.
The former top police officer had two years back undergone a heart surgery.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had on Friday deferred the pronouncement of the verdict on his revision petition in the molestation case to June 29.
Rathores lawyer-wife Abha Rathore had filed the petition seeking suspension of the 18-month sentence on his behalf in the High Court on May 26, a day after he was sentenced and lodged in the high-security Burail jail.
