Rathore has written to the Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh, that Utsav Sharma be booked under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Rathore claims Utsav's attack on him with a knife was an attempt on his life.
Police have registered a case against 29-year-old Utsav under Section 324 IPC, which deals with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. Rathore had not lodged any complaint after he was attacked on February 8.
Utsav Sharma, a student at Ahmedabad's prestigious National Institute of Design, is said to be suffering from a psychological disorder. On February 8, he had stabbed 68-year-old Rathore thrice in the face with a pocket knife while posing as a journalist. The incident occurred when the former IPS officer was coming out of court after a hearing.
