After arresting NCP MP Padamsinh Patil, the CBI is busy gathering evidence to produce a water tight case in court.
The evidence that it tried to scientifically test by re-creating the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar -- at the very spot it happened three years ago.
Their attempt: to find out if those arrested for the crime are telling the truth.
Nimbalkar was killed while travelling in his Skoda by assailants who were in an Indica.
First the Indica follows the Skoda and then overtake it. One of the two men in the Indica asks the driver of the Skoda car to roll down his windows.
The Skoda driver speaks to the person acting as Nimbalkar who rolls down his window and instantly is shot.
The assailant then runs back to the Indica which speeds towards the Mumbai Pune Highway.
Says CBI investigator Rituraj Singh: "We often do this in such cases to collect scientific evidence."
The CBI recently arrested NCP MP Padamsinh Patil for his alleged involvement in the case and is still hunting for three more accused.
With much of the original forensic evidence destroyed or lost, it is now trying to piece together a water tight case to bring the killers to justice.
