New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) says it is ready for snap polls and will fight the Congress-led UPA government on the issues of corruption and price rise.

After a meeting of the party's parliamentary board to discuss election strategy, BJP leader Ananth Kumar declared that the BJP is "now in election mode".

Mr Kumar said the UPA govt was in complete chaos, and desperate. "Due to its internal crisis, the Congress may try to hold early elections. In that event, the BJP is ready for snap polls," he said.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and campaign committee chief Narendra Modi will work together to set up different committees assigning responsibility for the campaign, said Mr Kumar, adding that these panels would be in place within 10 days.

The party is set to launch a nationwide campaign featuring more than 100 rallies and meetings.

At last Thursday's meeting, Mr Modi was tactically seated next to the party's seniormost leader LK Advani, to signal that their rift had ended.

Mr Advani had quit all his party posts last month when Mr Modi, who is the Chief Minister of Gujarat, was chosen to head the BJP's election campaign.

The 85-year-old rescinded his resignation a day later, in truce crafted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS, which is the BJP's ideological mentor.
