New Delhi:
Tuglakabad in south Delhi is literally sitting on a bomb, maybe many of them. There are unexploded explosives lying at the Tughlakabad container depot since 2004, which came in undetected along with scrap from Iraq.
The Army was called in to defuse the bombs but it first wanted the state government to provide an alternative site - a large open space, and insurance for any casualty or injury that may take place during the operation.
The Delhi government suggested an alternative site at Jagatpur in north Delhi.
In November last year, an Army team went there for inspection and found it suitable, but later the Sub Divisional Magistrate objected, saying it could pose a threat to the people residing nearby.
Now, the government isn't giving any answers.
In December last year, hearing a PIL on the issue, the Delhi High Court asked the Centre to defuse the bombs within six weeks, but not much has happened on the ground after that.
The dangerous scrap lies as it is, which means those working and living in and around the area continue to be in danger.
