Rekha, Missing In Action During GST Debate, Spotted In Parliament. Briefly

Rekha's appearances in the Rajya Sabha have been rare

Highlights

  • Rekha briefly attended the Rajya Sabha session on Tuesday
  • She attended the parliament for the first time during monsoon session
  • Rekha did not attend the mega GST debate in Rajya Sabha last week
New Delhi: Movie star Rekha didn't make it for the historic debate on GST, and she skipped the discussion on the Kashmir crisis this morning, but for the record, she did briefly attend the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

It was the first time in the monsoon session that the nominated member was spotted in parliament. The session ends on Friday.

Rekha, in a bright yellow saree, entered the Upper House when proceedings resumed after lunch on Tuesday. As she took her seat, Congress members T Subbirami Reddy and Chhaya Verma went up to her and had a brief chat.

The actress sat through a discussion on the appointment on judges in High Courts and Supreme Court.

Rekha and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar were nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the previous Congress-led UPA government and have been criticised for their poor attendance in parliament. Sachin Tendulkar attended Wednesday morning's session.

The actor's absence was noted last week when floor managers of the ruling BJP reportedly reached out to all members of the upper house to ensure full attendance for the discussion and vote on mega reform GST or Goods and Services Tax Bill.

Sources said they could not contact Rekha and senior ministers were seen in parliament asking colleagues from the Congress how to touch base with her.

Sachin Tendulkar did not attend the GST debate either but recorded his vote on Twitter.
