Dindigul, Tamil Nadu: A boy studying in tenth standard allegedly hanged himself at his school premises here after his English teacher reprimanded him for forging his signature in the answer sheet.
According to police, when the boy, a student of CSMA higher secondary school at Kovilur, returned his answer sheet to the teacher yesterday after writing his mid-term exam, he was charged with forging the teacher's signature on the sheet.
When the student denied the charge and refused to go to the principal's office with his teacher, he was asked to go home and bring his parents, police said. The boy later committed suicide at the deserted top floor of the school's building, they said.
The Principal of the school said the teacher did not beat the student but only reprimanded him, and the teacher was also asked not to send him out of class during class hours. The boy was academically good and was usually among the top ten students in class, he said.
Meanwhile, the boy's parents picketed the school building with other residents of the village, demanding action against the teacher. They also blocked vehicular traffic. They dispersed after being persuaded by police. The teacher has been detained for questioning.
The boy's body was handed over to his parents last night after post-mortem, police said.
