New Delhi:
The Indian Air Force has said that the flypast, a highlight of the Republic Day parade, is on. There was some worry that the 30-aircraft display would be cancelled due to rain in the capital.
US President Barack Obama will be chief guest at the parade.
The flypast features a medley of 30 aircraft helicopters, surveillance aircraft and supersonic fighters that roar over Rajpath in a dazzling nine-minute show of strength in the skies.
This year, the Navy's US-made Long Range Maritime Surveillance Aircraft P-8Is will be on display for the first time as will the supersonic Naval fighter MiG-29Ks.
The MiGs will follow the P-8I in a "victor" formation.
The fly past will be led by the Army's aviation contingent. They will be flying the indigenously built Druv helicopters, which will be followed by the Russian built Mi-35 attack helicopters.
The US made C-130 J transport planes that will follow them
The Indian Air Force will showcase its Jaguar fighters and the Su-30 MKIs.
Delhi woke up to an overcast sky and moderate to light rain in many places. But the weatherman has said it is unlikely to rain on the Republic Day parade at Rajpath in the heart of Delhi, scheduled to begin in a while from now.
