Jalore, Rajasthan: Incessant rains over the past two days have led to a flood like situation in parts of south Rajasthan that borders Gujarat. 12 villages of Jalore district have been inundated, and rescue operations by helicopters have saved 53 people till yesterday, according to officials.
The situation has worsened after check dams have been breached in the area, leading to more flooding. Local administration is still rescuing marooned villagers with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) relief teams in boats.
While speaking to NDTV on the phone, senior government official, Jitendra Soni said, "The situation was under control but still tense. The entire administration had been moved to Sanchore town to oversee rescue efforts."
All schools in the area have been asked to remain closed till tomorrow. The worst affected towns in Jalore district are Bhinmal and Sanchore. Till yesterday, Jalore had received approximately 79 milimetres of rainfall. The monsoon department has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of the region over the next few days.
