Yamunanagar: Former DGP Haryana SPS Rathore is not alone in the hall of shame of Haryana Police officers. Now a former Inspector General, MS Ahlawat, has been booked for threatening and molesting a widow in Yamunanagar in 2001 when he was Superintendent of Police (SP) of the area.
For nine years police did not take any action on the complaint. It was only after the woman sat on a protest outside the DGP office last year that an inquiry was ordered. Now police has initiated action against the former IG who retired few months ago.
"We have registered a case against former IG MS Ahlawat under section 327, 354, 506 for threatening, molestation and intimidating her. We have started the investigation," said Manohar Lal, SHO, City Police Station, Yamunanagar.
The woman, Arvinder Kaur, now says it wasn't easy for her to get a case registered against the Ahlawat. She recalls that SPS Rathore was the DGP of Haryana and Ahlawat was the SP when she was allegedly molested.
Kaur now hopes that former IG will be punished.
"If DGP Rathore was not in office then, Alhawat would not have dared to do such a thing. Alhawat also wouldn't have had the guts to harass a lady who had gone to him for help in a dowry case," Kaur said.
"I am not going to leave these people so easily. I will make sure they take my complaint and investigate," she added.
Police has started investigation in the case and for the moment, former IG Ahlawat was not available for comment.
