New Delhi:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Delhi today.
The meeting comes amid reports that the party is not happy with Mr Chavan's style of functioning in Maharashtra. There were reports that there was resentment amongst the Congress ranks over Mr Chavan's governance.
Earlier this month, Minister of State for Communication and IT, Milind Deora, had complained about a "decision deficit" leading to a delay in executing crucial projects in Maharashtra. However, Mr Deora later added that his statement in no way cast aspersions on the sincerity of the Maharashtra Chief Minister.
Sources say Mr Chavan and Mrs Gandhi are discussing a possible rejig of the Congress' Maharashtra unit.
Before Mrs Gandhi's meeting with Mr Chavan today, veteran Congress leader Vayalar Ravi had met the Congress President. According to sources, Mr Ravi went to Andhra Pradesh to assess the ground situation in the state ahead of the bypolls. He briefed Mrs Gandhi about the Congress party's chances in the by-elections.
Sources suggest these meetings are in view of plans to restructure the party.
This is after the Congress had disappointing results in the recent Assembly polls in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and in this week's civic polls in Delhi.
