Altogether 1,195 rhino horns kept in 39 boxes in the Golaghat Treasury were verified in two phases spanning four days. The exercise concluded yesterday, the sources said.
Every single horn was examined by the Committee members, including Field Laboratory Scientists of the State Forensic Laboratory.
The Committee will now travel to Tezpur and Mangaldoi Treasuries in the third phase tomorrow, they added.
The exercise was aimed at compiling a database of the rhino horns kept in various treasuries of Assam for their transparent verification as decided by the Committee for Examination of Rhino Horns.
The Committee at a meeting here last month chaired by Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma decided to compile the entire database for a complete transparent evaluation for the people of the state and the country to know the actual status of rhino horns stocked in various treasuries of Assam.
