Ruchika believed justice will prevail: Ashu

Panchkula: After 19 years, 2010 may be the first year that holds hope for the Girhotra family.
On Thursday Ruchika's brother Ashu Girhotra, who has been silent along with the rest of Ruchika's family, emerged out of this silence to file a fresh complaint against their tormentor the former Haryana DGP.

NDTV has exclusive copy of the complaint filed by Ruchika's brother Ashu Girhotra on Thursday.

In a heart-wrenching account, he says:

•    Ruchika was a pillar of strength and she used to say, "Come what may, we have to fight it out and he has to be punished"

•    "Bhai, I derive strength from you and you do not worry. God is there and he will do justice and in the end, justice will prevail'. So, in this manner, we kept consoling each other.

•    My sister was very strong mentally that she would not cow-down under any sort of pressure whatsoever and would fight it out in all possible manner. Therefore, my father arranged for private studies of my sister.

•    Goons were deployed outside our house. Whenever my sister went anywhere, they used to follow her and used abusive and vulgar language. Consequently, my sister was homebound and was literally under house arrest. On various occasions, at odd hours ,the phone bell used to ring and some unknown person used to hurl abuses by the name of mother and sister and the caller used to threaten of dire consequences, if the complaint lodged by Ruchika is not withdrawn. Even after this, we kept on fighting the battle.

•    In October 1993, I had gone to the market, I was picked up from near my house.

•    When I asked them the reason they said, "Bahut bahadur bana phirta hain, tereko batatein hain'

•    Hell had broken loose when I came to know that my sister has died. She was virtually forced to commit suicide as she was broken down because she could not see the miseries meted out to me on the day I was paraded in the lane, where we were living. She took the atrocities committed upon her, but she could not take the harassment meted out to me, her brother.

Ashu, in his new complaint, also stated that Rathore and the Panchkula police falsely arrested and tortured him and drove his sister to suicide. The abetment to suicide charge if proven can land SPS Rathore in jail for 10 years. (Read & Watch: Ruchika's brother speaks out, files fresh complaint against Rathore)

Ashu says categorically that the CBI only investigated the molestation case and did not take into account the incidents of intimidation by Rathore and his men which could have been used to make a case for abetting Ruchika's suicide. (Read: Will Rathore be tried for abetment of suicide?)

Ashu's complaint is really the key for further action against Rathore, not just at the level of the police in Haryana but also in terms of what central agencies like the CBI can do.
