Ruchika case chargesheet: Court rapped CBI in 2001

Ruchika case chargesheet: Court rapped CBI in 2001
New Delhi: The CBI court had rapped the investigating agency in 2001 for not charging S P S Rathore with abetment to suicide in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.

Former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore has been given six months in prison for molesting a 14-year-old budding tennis player who later committed suicide.

NDTV has access to the court order of 2001 in which the CBI has been slammed by the court for not including the abetment to suicide charge in the chargesheet filed in 2000.

The CBI then added the charge only to be struck down by the High Court in 2002.

The order of the Ambala Special Judicial Magistrate of the CBI court, who heard the case in 2001, says:

"The CBI court has failed to understand why the CBI turned a deaf ear to the statement of (witnesses) Aradhana, Madhu Anand, Anand Parkash containing allegations regarding the death of Ruchika.

Prima facie case for the addition of offence under section 305 IPC (abetment to suicide) is made out. But the CBI had preferred to submit chargesheet under Section 354 IPC (molestation) alone against the accused."
