Mumbai: NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is in a fix over Padamsinh Patil, his right hand man who's been booked for murder by CBI.

The arrest has rattled the NCP just four months ahead of the assembly polls in Maharashtra. In fact, the Opposition created a ruckus in the Maharashtra assembly on Monday, saying that former Home Minister RR Patil protected the accused.

Pawar though has been trying to steer clear of the controversy. Sources say there is pressure from the Congress quarters as well to come clean on the issue.

The NCP has said that the party has nothing to do with the murder case and if the charges are proved they will disassociate themselves from Patil.

The Shiv Sena has blasted the Mumbai police for shoddy work, which lead to the case being handed over to the CBI.
