The workers had damaged the property of the Gurgaon factory.

New Delhi:

Hundreds of workers at a garment firm in Gurgaon went on rampage this morning after one of the workers turned up late for work and was not allowed inside the factory.

Police said the violence began after a rumour was circulated that the worker, Shammi Chand, had been beaten to death.

Chand claimed he was late for work by 10 minutes, police said. But the security guards did not allow him inside and allegedly misbehaved with him. Later his supervisor allegedly slapped him. Chand fell and had to be taken to a hospital.

Soon, a rumour spread that Chand had been beaten to death by his supervisor, after which the workers of the firm and its four sister concerns, gathered and began an agitation.

They vandalized the property of the firm and damaged cars and bikes parked outside.
