Itanagar: The body of a Russian national who reportedly drowned during a rafting expedition on October 31 in Arunachal Pradesh has been found in Lower Subansiri district, authorities said today.
The rafter reportedly drowned during a rafting expedition at Kamla River near Tamin in the district, Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen (RPT) Kemo Lollen said.
He said that though the district administration came to know about the incident after finding the body yesterday, search operations were on since the day the incident had occurred.
Mr Lollen said as per information, a five-member team from Russia had reached Kurung Kumey district a few days ago for a rafting expedition.
"We have no information on the tourists visiting either Kurung Kumey or Lower Subansiri districts and the administration came to know about the accident only yesterday," he said.
He added that the body was kept at the General Hospital in Ziro for postmortem and the police would need a clearance from the Russian Embassy before they go ahead with the medical formalities.
The state government has been made aware of the incident and accordingly Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin are in constant touch with the district administration, the DC said.
