Sad at the developments, monitoring situation closely: Chidambaram on Pakistan

New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram has said New Delhi was monitoring developments in Pakistan closely.

"We have a troubled neighbourhood. We  have to remain vigilant round the clock," said Mr Chidmabaram addressing newspersons in New Delhi today.

The Home Minister added India  was "sad at the developments" in Pakistan and is keeping a close watch on its borders for infiltration.

At least 12 Pakistan navy personnel were and 14 others injured, as militants attacked Karachi's naval air station. The base was retaken by Pakistan army and navy commandos after a 15-hour long gunbattle.The Pakistan Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, they said it was revenge for Osama bin Laden's killing. (Read: Siege at Karachi naval base ends)

On reports suggesting that the Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar had been killed, Mr Chidambaram said, " We'll have to wait and watch to see if those reports are true."
