Soon after the latest bulletin on his health , security was tightened at the hospital after devotees started becoming anxious. Prohibitory orders have been clamped in Puttaparti.
The 86-year-old spiritual leader who has millions of devotees around the world was admitted with lung and chest infections on March 28 to the hospital at Prashantigram at Puttaparti.
Some treat him as a philanthropist; others as a godman. Neena Dave, a devout follower, breaks down. "Sai Ram...he is God but he is in human form...and still we cannot do anything for him. I just hope my baba is better."
At the Prashanti Nilayam ashram, where people like former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and President Abdul Kalam visited him, there's concern about whether facts on Sai Baba's health are being concealed.
"There is certainly no secrecy. We all know Baba had a hypertensive attack, a pacemaker was put to him...yesterday, his renal output was less, so he was put on haemodialysis," says Geeta Reddy, a minister in the Andhra Pradesh government.
