Mumbai: Movie star Salman Khan, asked to explain his controversial "rape" comments, failed to show up before the Maharashtra women's panel on for the second time on Thursday.

He has been given a "third and final" chance to appear on July 14, failing which he may face an FIR or police complaint.

The 50-year-old actor sparked uproar when he said that his punishing training schedule for the wrestling-themed film "Sultan" - which released yesterday to packed theatres - left him feeling "like a raped woman".

He was summoned both by the national and state women's commissions.

In a letter to the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Mr Khan has said he "doesn't want duplicity" as his case is being heard by both panels.

"Neither Salman nor his lawyer attended the hearing today. This is the second summons he is missing, we will give him another final chance on the 14th of July," said state panel chief Vijaya Rahatkar.

The actor has also been summoned by the National Commission For Women tomorrow.

On June 18, Mr Khan told reporters while promoting his film: "When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn't walk straight."

Responding to public anger, his father Salim Khan apologized on his behalf with posts on Twitter. But there has been no apology or statement from the actor till now.

At a recent film awards function, he said he needs to talk less to stay out of trouble.

Amid mostly muted reactions from the film fraternity, Aamir Khan this week made a strong statement saying: "I wasn't present when he made the comment but going by media reports, I feel what he said was unfortunate and rather insensitive."
