Mumbai: A court in Mumbai will announce shortly whether actor Salman Khan is guilty of running over pavement dwellers with his SUV in 2002.
One person, Nurullah Sharif, died in the accident and four were injured - Abdullah Shaikh, Muslim Shaikh, Munnu Khan and Mohammed Kalim.
"We want compensation but don't want him (Salman Khan) punished. Even if he gets some punishment, it won't give back our 13 years," said Abdullah Shaikh, who lost his leg.
Shaikh says he was 22 at the time of the accident. Today, he says he cannot work properly and earn enough. "I do not have any hopes but it is up to the court to decide," he said.
Nurullah came under the car and was dragged some distance, the court has been told by witnesses.
Last month, the actor's defence lawyer told the court that there was evidence that the victims were injured when the wrecked car fell on them while being lifted by a crane.
The prosecution alleges that Salman Khan was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser after drinking at a bar, and, after losing control of his car, ran over men sleeping on the pavement before ramming a bakery.
Salman Khan has said that the case against him is false, and that his driver Ashok Singh was behind the wheels when the accident took place.
If convicted, the megastar, who is among the most successful actors in the Hindi film industry, could face 10 years in jail.
