A local police inspector was allegedly part of the mob that demolished the house.
The police says that the three sons of a leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh have demolished a house that was being built by a doctor in eastern part of the state.
On Saturday, the young men, whose father Ram Lal Akela is a state legislator, reportedly pulled out guns at the construction site in a village in Rae Bareli. They were allegedly accompanied by an armed group of 30 supporters who destroyed the construction. A local police inspector was allegedly part of the mob.
One of the sons of the MLA, Vikrant Akela, claims that he owns the plot of land on which the house is being built. He is also the district president of the youth wing of the Samajwadi Party.
Dr Naseer Hussain says the local police refused to register a police case so he then contacted senior officers at the district level. He says that the politicians's sons had asked him to pay Rs 20 lakh and when he refused, they decided to demolish the house he is building.
"I have the authentic agreement of this land. I have done nothing wrong," Vikrant Akela said.
Neither he nor his brothers have been arrested.
When he was elected last year, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had promised that he would free the state of "goonda raj", the unfettered right-of-way that politicians in Uttar Pradesh have long exercised, exempting themselves from the law.
However, a series of criminal cases, some involving important leaders of the party or their relatives, have established the young chief minister's claim as hollow.
