Sangeet Som Seeks Ban On Screening Of Film On Muzaffarnagar Riots

Sangeet Som has been under the scanner for his alleged role in the Muzaffarnagar riots.

Meerut: Controversial BJP leader Sangeet Som today demanded a ban on the screening of the riot-themed film 'Shorgul' in Muzaffarnagar.

Mr Som, who has been under the scanner for his alleged role in the Muzaffarnagar riots, claimed that several political leaders had been portrayed in a factually incorrect manner in the film.

"The district administration should ban the screening of the film in Muzaffarnagar. If they do not do that, then I will be forced to take some action," the Sardhana MLA told PTI in Meerut.

'Shorgul', which is slated for release tomorrow, has been shot in the backdrop of Muzaffarnagar communal riots in Uttar Pradesh.

The movie, featuring Jimmy Shergill and Ashutosh Rana in lead roles, is based on friendship between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl that snowballs into a political issue leading to unrest and chaos in society.

Police officers in the state, have been put on alert in this regard, Inspector General Sujit Pandey said, and added that the law and order situation will not be allowed to deteriorate.

Meanwhile, the owner of a movie theatre here, Deepak Seth, said that the film could be screened only if police and administration make adequate security arrangements.
