Chennai: Winding up his campaign for the Presidential election, NDA candidate PA Sangma today met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and thanked her for supporting his candidature for the top post.
"I came here to thank Jayalalithaa for giving full support to me," Mr Sangma, pitted against UPA's nominee Pranab Mukherjee, told reporters after calling on the chief minister at her Poes Garden residence here.
Ms Jayalalithaa and her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik were the first to propose Mr Sangma's candidature for the election in which Mr Mukherjee is all set to emerge victorious with numbers stacked in his favour.
Mr Sangma said Ms Jayalalithaa not only backed his candidature but also mobilised support from all over. "This is great strength for me," the former Lok Sabha Speaker said.
He said since tomorrow is the polling day, he came to thank Ms Jayalalithaa, who returned on Wednesday from Kodanadu hills where she was camping.
The interaction took place ahead of the meeting of AIADMK party MPs and MLAs to discuss Thursday's election.
