New Delhi: Sanitary napkin vending machines and disposal machines have been installed in three women's washrooms in the North Block, which houses the Home and the Finance Ministries, an official statement said today.

The initiative was taken by the Department of Personnel and Training under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.

"This is as per the action plan of the department for the ongoing SHS initiated by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation," said a Department of Personnel and Training statement.

Joint Secretaries K Kipgen and G. Jayanthi inaugurated the machines at the first floor washroom in the presence of a large number of women employees.

The users will have to insert a Rs 5 coin for getting a napkin.

"The machines will be operated on no-profit-no-loss basis. Besides, the used napkins can be disposed in the disposal machines in an environment-friendly manner," the statement said.
