Kolkata: The Election Commission has directed "appropriate sanitisation" of transport vehicles ferrying poll personnel as well as securing of polling station locations in the wake of reports of crude bombs being discovered in a bus on election duty, an official said on Saturday.
"The Commission has instructed district election officers to ensure appropriate sanitisation of every vehicle used to transport officials. It has also stressed on sanitisation of polling station locations," additional chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar told the media in Kolkata.
He said the poll panel took cognisance of a media report of four crude bombs found in a bus in a constituency in Malda district.
"It was requisitioned for transporting poll personnel but at that time there were no officials inside the vehicle. Following a strike by transport workers after the discovery of a bomb, the vehicle was sanitised," he added.
