Suspended Trinamool Congress lawmaker Kunal Ghosh, an accused in Saradha chit fund scam, on Monday threatened to go on a hunger strike if those involved in the scam were not arrested.
Mr Ghosh, while making his own submission before CBI judge Arvind Mishra, said he would go on indefinite hunger strike from Mahalaya day, which falls on October 12, and questioned why others involved in the scam were not arrested by the central agency.
He told the court that CBI should interrogate him along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a demand he had on earlier occasions too.
The CBI counsel submitted that there was a larger conspiracy in the scam involving over Rs 2000 crore, of which Rs 988 crore had been invested in Bengal Media, a fully-owned Saradha Group company, whose CEO was Ghosh and that investigation was on to unravel it.
The judge then extended judicial remand of Ghosh till September 28 and directed the jail authorities to take proper care of him in view of his hunger strike threat.
The judicial remand of Saradha group chairman Sudipta Sen and group director Debjani Mukherjee, who too were produced in the court, was extended till September 28.
Mr Ghosh was arrested on November 23, 2013 and sent to custody by CBI on September 4, 2014, after it took over investigation on the orders of the Supreme Court.
