Kolkata: West Bengal minister Madan Mitra, arrested by CBI in the Saradha scam, was taken to the state-run SSKM hospital for a check-up this morning. He was sent back to the jail after conducting medical tests.

"There is nothing serious," hospital sources told the Press Trust of India today.

Doctors of the seven-member medical board, earlier set up to monitor the minister's health conditions, were also present during the check-up at the hospital.

A city court yesterday rejected the minister's bail plea and remanded him in judicial custody till January 16. Mr Mitra claimed innocence saying he was ready to be hanged if found guilty in the chit fund scam.

The magistrate, yesterday, however, directed jail authorities to ensure medical-aid to the minister. Mr Mitra, who is Transport and Sports minister, was arrested on December 12 and following two spells in CBI custody, he was sent to judicial remand on December 19.

He was, however, admitted to state-run SSKM Hospital on the same evening following complaints of chest pain and uneasiness and was there for most part of his judicial remand before he was shifted back to Alipore Central Jail on December 28 after the doctors gave the go-ahead for his release from hospital.
