Kolkata:

Matang Sinh, the man who forced the exit of the country's home secretary from his job, has been summoned to appear at a Delhi court on Monday.

The former union minister (Matang Sinh) is an accused in the Saradha chit fund scam case, and was arrested on January 31. He is currently at the jail hospital in Kolkata's Alipore Correctional Home.

On Friday evening, the correctional home authorities were surprised to receive a fax about a production warrant from Delhi's Patiala House court around 6.30 pm -- well after courts close across the country -- summoning Mr Sinh to appear on February 9.

Sources said the production warrant was from Metropolitan Magistrate Sunil Kumar Singh.

Alipore correctional authorities are likely to consult the West Bengal home secretary before acting on the production warrant, which not just arrived after office hours, but also on the evening before a weekend.

Ironically, Matang Sinh has not been produced in court in Kolkata. Immediately after his arrest, Mr Sinh was admitted to a government hospital. On Thursday night, he was shifted to the Alipore correctional home hospital.

Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami was sacked on Wednesday for allegedly trying to protect Matang Sinh. A senior IPS officer from the Bengal cadre, currently posted with a paramilitary force in Delhi, is under the scanner as well, for trying to ensure that Mr Sinh was questioned in Delhi and not in Kolkata.

Another officer of the Delhi police is also believed to have intervened to provide security for Mr Sinh in Kolkata.

There are questions circulating about a woman who accompanied Matang Sinh to the CBI office in Kolkata on January 31. Some reports have identified her as Khyati Saddana, however, not much is known about her at the moment.
