Kolkata: Special Crime Branch of CBI today questioned West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra in a hospital in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam in which he is an accused.
CBI sources said that Mr Mitra, who was arrested in December 2014 and is now in judicial custody, was interrogated about his association with the Saradha group.
Mr Mitra, the sources said, maintained his earlier stand that he was a public figure - being a minister - and was free to go anywhere.
Asked whether Mr Mitra would be quizzed again, he said "We have time till September 1 to do that."
After getting the court's permission yesterday to interrogate Mr Mitra in hospital, CBI yesterday went to SSKM Hospital, where he has been lodged for the past few months but could not quiz him as some medical formalities had to be completed, sources said.
