Kolkata:
A city court on Tuesday allowed the plea of the CBI to interrogate West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra who is behind bars for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam.
"The court has allowed our prayer to interrogate Mitra in custody. We have been given 7 days to interrogate him," said CBI counsel P.S. Dutta.
CBI had moved the court contending that Mr Mitra has been spending most of custody period in the state-run SSKM Hospital, denying them the opportunity to interrogate him.
Madan Mitra was arrested December 12 last year and charge sheeted by the CBI for several offences including criminal conspiracy.
According to a report by the Alipore Correctional Home, Mitra has spent less than 50 days in the jail since he was remanded to judicial custody Dec 19.
The condition of the senior Trinamool Congress legislator is stable now. He was moved to the Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) on Friday after he complained of chest pain. The doctors on Monday shifted him out of the ITU after his condition improved.
