Kolkata: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) yesterday demanded a probe into accusations made by suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh against a West Bengal minister and two others in the Saradha chit fund scandal.
Quoting media reports, CPM politburo member and leader of opposition in the state assembly Surjya Kanta Mishra said Ghosh named three people - a state cabinet minister, a Trinamool MP, and an Indian Police Service officer-turned Trinamool leader.
"Why are the police not questioning these three people? We demand an immediate probe," Mr Mishra said.
Emerging from an interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Ghosh on Tuesday named Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra for the meteoric rise of scam kingpin Sudipta Sen.
"Madan Mitra will be able to give better answers about how Sen, a small-time businessman, rose to be such an important person," Ghosh said.
Having been repeatedly grilled by the state police and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), Ghosh had repeatedly claimed to have been made a "scapegoat" and threatened to reveal some big names involved in the biggest financial scam to hit the state.
Calling Ghosh's remarks "unfortunate", Mitra in turn has warned: "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others."
