Srinagar: A sarpanch was critically injured on Friday in a suspected militant attack in Sopore township of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.
Khazir Mohammad was seriously injured after he was shot at by some unidentified militants while he was coming out of a local mosque after offering Friday prayers in Kranki Shivan village, 55 kms from Srinagar, police said.
The injured sarpanch was admitted to hospital.
Security forces have immediately cordoned off the village and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
