Hyderabad:
The special CBI court hearing the Satyam case will get a report on Ramalinga Raju's medical condition today from the hospital where he is admitted.
The court is likely to give its verdict on whether Raju can be tried through video conferencing from his hospital bed, a plea CBI filed as the former Satyam chairman was not appearing before the court in person.
Hyderabad's NIMS hospital has been home to Ramalinga Raju since September 2009. After his arrest in January last year, the former Satyam chairman spent eight months inside Chanchalguda jail and close to nine months at NIMS, as he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
The CBI now awaits his presence in the special court as framing of charges have to be done in Raju's presence.
Doctors have said that going to court will expose Raju to infections. What they ignore is that Raju has had over 275 visitors in hospital.
Raju and his nine accomplices are charged with criminal breach of trust and forgery. The CBI is ready with three chargesheets, running into one-and-a-half lakh pages, and is hoping to get a conviction within a year, that could send the accused to jail for life.
The trial will probably start around the same time when Mahindra Satyam announces its restatement of accounts on June 30. While Satyam in its new avatar will start a new innings, Raju will fight to explain why and how he built Satyam on a whole lot of 'asatya'.
