New Delhi:
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the party had shown "its real face" by not supporting the constitution amendment bill in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
"BJP was committed to constitutional status for Lokpal in the standing committee," she told reporters.
"But yesterday (Tuesday), we saw their (BJP) real face. The strength we wanted to give to Lokpal, they did not want it," she said.
After a daylong stormy debate, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday night passed the Lokpal bill. But it was not able to give constitutional status to the Lokpal.
