Saxena not cooperating in cash-for-votes investigation: Police
New Delhi: Sanjeev Saxena, who was reportedly an aide of Amar Singh's, is not cooperating in the investigation into the cash-for-votes scam, according to the Delhi Police.

Mr Saxena was arrested on Sunday on charges of trying to bribe three BJP  MPs to support the UPA government in a crucial trust vote in 2008. He was produced in a Delhi court today and has been remanded to three days in police custody.

Though Mr Singh who was with the Samajwadi Party in 2008 has denied knowing Mr Saxena well, the Delhi Police has described him in court as an official aide of the politician.

Mr Saxena was arrested after the Supreme Court criticized the Delhi Police for making no progress in the case.

A seven-member parliamentary committee had been set up in July 2008; it had asked the Delhi Police to check out the alleged roles played by Mr Saxena and others.

Former Chief Election Commissioner JM Lyngdoh has petitioned the Supreme Court asking that action be taken against politicians involved in the scam.

On July 2008, Ashok Argal, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora - all from the BJP - appeared in the Lok Sabha hours before a trust vote waving bundles of cash. They alleged they had been offered a crore as a bribe to support the Prime Minister who faced a no-confidence vote after the Left withdrew support to the UPA over India's nuclear deal with America.

Much of Mr Saxena's interaction with the three MPs was allegedly caught on camera by a TV channel, which was coopted for a sting by the BJP, according to some reports. Earlier this year, BJP leaders said that if indeed this was the case, it was done in public interest. The footage has been studied by the police.
