SC notice to UP govt over Varun Gandhi

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has served notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and District Magistrate of Pilibhit on Varun Gandhi's petition challenging detention under NSA.

The case will now be taken up by the apex court for hearing on April 13.

Varun's lawyer told the Supreme Court that he has been illegally detained, as the procedures to be followed for arresting under NSA were not followed.

The lawyer claimed that the documents connected to Varun's arrest were not handed over to him by state government.

The lawyer also said the argument that Varun has to campaign in Pilibhit, so now only few days are left.

Mentioning that Varun would be filing his nomination on April 16 or 17, the lawyer asked that the NSA arrest should be quashed and he should be released.

"Mayawati government wants to put everyone in jail. Varun wants he should at least be given interim bail so that he can campaign and file nomination," said the lawyer.
