Scrap Class 10 board exams, says Kapil Sibal
New Delhi:

In a bid to reform the education system in the country, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal is planning to scrap the Class 10 board examination. Sources say the minister said the examinations are a source of trauma for both parents and students.

"There has to be an alternative system other than exams," Sibal said. According to the minister, since the students continued in the same school even after Class 10, board exams were not required.

Sibal said the HRD ministry will consult and take into confidence the state education boards before taking a final decision.

And, there has been a gift for students from UP Chief Minister Mayawati as well. The UP government has scraped marks system in high schools. Instead, it will soon introduce a grading system.

"My government has taken steps to improve the board exam conditions In high schools, if a student passes five out of six exams, he will be declared passed. There are provisions for compartment exams. There will be no division mentioned on the report card.  There will be provisions made for grading and credit system," Mayawati said.
