Scrap Nuclear-liability Bill, demand Left parties

New Delhi: The Left parties which turned down Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's request to support the Nuclear-liability Bill on Saturday issued a statement terming the Bill illegal and unconstitutional.

In a statement, the Left parties said:

• The Bill is a harmful piece of legislation meant to serve the interests of the United States and its nuclear industry.
• The government is seeking to fulfill a hidden commitment to deliver a legislation, which safeguards the interests of the United States at the expense of the safety of the Indian people.
• The Nuclear Liability Bill needs to be scrapped.
