Scuffle over Chiru's cash row

Scuffle over Chiru's cash row
Tirupati:

There was high drama at the Tirupati hotel where Chiranjeevi is staying, as Congress workers raided this hotel on Wednesday afternoon alleging that the film star turned actor was distributing money to lure voters on the eve of voting.

But the president of the Praja Rajyam party said, "They are doing these cheap tricks because they think they will be defeated."

"Praja Rajyam leaders were distributing money to lure voters in the eve of the elections. These are voter list slips on the basis of which money was distributed," said a Congress activist.

With news that police had wanted to search rooms of Chiranjeevi and other PRP leaders, agitated fans gathered at the hotel and raised slogans.

"They came, but went away," said Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi is not just one of Andhra Pradesh's biggest stars, but he is contesting the elections to become chief minister.

There is tension in the area and authorities hope voting passes off peacefully on Thursday.

Security personnel are concerned that if Chiru decides to go out into town on polling day, it could cause law and order problems.
