Second innings for Rahul, files nomination for Amethi

Amethi: While Varun Gandhi spends another day in the Etah jail, his cousin and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers on Saturday at the Sultanpur district headquarters for the Amethi Parliamentary constituency.

Rahul was accompanied by his mother, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and brother-in-law Robert Vadra, along with the state unit chief.

Rahul Gandhi had entered active politics in 2004 after the party nominated him from Amethi.

Sonia Gandhi will also file her nomination papers from Rae Bareilly constituency on April 6.

According an NDTV poll, he is as popular a choice for Prime Minister as Manmohan Singh and as Sonia Gandhi.

As he filed his nomination papers, here is a  look at the assets declared by Rahul Gandhi in his affidavit to the Election Commission.

He has jewellery worth Rs 1,50,000
Four acres of agricultural land in Mehrauli worth over Rs 9 lakh
Six acres of land in Faridabad worth Rs 28 lakh
Two shops in South Delhi's Metropolitan Mall in Saket worth Rs 1.5 crore
He has also taken a Rs 70 lakh loan. Of this Rs 23 lakh is still outstanding, but he has no car.
