Second post-mortem conducted to remove bullets from Ponty Chadha's body

Second post-mortem conducted to remove bullets from Ponty Chadha's body
New Delhi: Doctors conducted a second post-mortem on the body of liquor and real estate baron Ponty Chadha to remove three bullets that had remained lodged even after the same procedure held earlier in the day.

The second post-mortem at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) delayed Mr Chadha's cremation and invited protests from his family.

Mr Chadha and his brother Hardeep were killed on Saturday in a shootout at their south Delhi farmhouse. The gunfight was sparked off by a dispute over the property in Chattarpur.

Police had told doctors it suspected that four bullets were lodged in Mr Chadha's body as these had no 'exit wounds'. But the doctors were able to remove just one bullet during the first post-mortem.

Police said Mr Chadha's body, which had been handed over to his family after the first post-mortem, had to be brought back. "In such a situation, the law does not allow cremation. After persuading the family, we took the body back to AIIMS," a police official said.

There was considerable commotion at the Chadha residence in Chattarpur when the police arrived to take the body back. The family relented only after being assured that the post-mortem would be completed tonight and the body handed over for the funeral.

Police put up a heavy presence at AIIMS to ensure that the post-mortem was completed without any hitch.
