Maharajganj (UP): In the wake of ongoing political crisis in Nepal, security has been beefed up along the Indo-Nepal border, senior security officials said on Thursday.

Sashstra Seema Bal units deployed at the long and porous border had been put on high alert in the border districts and a strict watch is being kept on the situation, SSB Commandant Lalit Kumar said.

"The SSB guarding the 74-km long border have been asked to keep a strict vigil along the highly porous border to check movement of unwanted elements, criminals and smuggling of arms," he said.

"Every suspected person will be checked," he said.

"Keeping in view possibility of influx of Madhesias in UP, the state administration and police officers of border districts had been asked to maintain a round the clock vigil on the border," Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brij Lal said.
