Berhampur, Odisha: Security has been strengthened at the Odisha Sands Complex or OSCOM, one of the units of the Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) under Department of Atomic Energy, in the wake of the surgical strike across the Line of Control by the Indian Army.
"As per instruction of the standard guidelines of the government, we have beefed up the security in OSCOM. Surveillance measure in and around the IREL unit has also been intensified," A K Mohapatra, chief of the Odisha Sands Complex today said.
Besides our own security personnel, we have also engaged around 150 others, 50 per cent of them ex-servicemen, in the establishment, the official said.
The Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force visited the the Odisha Sands Complex recently and reviewed the security, officials said before adding that the facility has received fresh guidelines from Department of Atomic Energy today about measures.
The Odisha Sands Complex produces rare earths like Ilmenite, Rutile, Ircon and Sillimanite.
Security has also been beefed up in other vital installations in the area, including the Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur and Gopalpur Port.
"As a precautionary measure, we sounded alert in all vital establishments in our region and the marine police stations at Sonepur and Arjeepali, following the incident across the LoC," said Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) Amitabh Thakur.
