Security of our official bungalows not enough: MPs tell Speaker

New Delhi: MPs are facing threat to their lives and property in the official residences allotted to them, a delegation of law makers told Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"The houses allotted to MPs don't have proper security and in this regard we met the Speaker and requested her to provide security to us... MPs also face the threat to their life and property," BJP MP Arjunram Meghwal told reporters after meeting the Speaker.

He said the MPs had taken the step after a number of incidents raising a question mark on their security happened at their official residences in the last few days with the lastest taking place on Tuesday evening.

"A thief attacked Mahendra Singh Chauhan, an MP from Gujarat at his residence at around 1900 hours yesterday and escaped after trying to hurt him... This is not the first incident of its kind," he said.

Meghwal said seven days back, thieves had struck at the house of Assam MP Vidhyadhar Chakravarthy and similar thefts have been carried out by them at MPs C R Patil, Harish Chaudhary and Nan Patil in the recent past.
