Tackling the threat from terror network ISIS and radicalisation of youth took prominence as Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on community policing while addressing the annual conference of police officers in Gujarat's Dhordo on Sunday afternoon.
In his 70-minute address PM Modi stressed on sensitive policing. "Sensitivity should be a vital element of policing, and a flexible institutional framework should be built, which can help imbibe sensitivity towards citizens in the police force," the Prime Minister said.
He also said that police forces should establish links with local communities. One way of doing this is to celebrate the successes and achievements of people in the community, PM Modi said.
"People in a community should identify with police stations," PM Modi said.
Senior police officers in the annual conference discussed that authorities needs to take a humane view while tacking such issues since taking a hard stand may radicalise youth further.
Yesterday, the first presentation made in the conference was about radicalisation. Role of social media and online websites was also looked into.
