Separatists call bandh in Kashmir after two die in Army firing
Srinagar: Shops, schools and offices in Srinagar and the surrounding areas are closed today as part of a bandh or strike called to protest against Sunday's killing of a school boy and another young man by the Army.

A case of murder has been registered against the Army by the police in Bandipora district where the firing took place. The Army has begun an inquiry and expressed its regret.

Yesterday, massive protests erupted in the area after the killing of Irfan Nabi, who was in Class 12, and another young man named Tariq Ahmad.

Separately, in South Kashmir's Pulwama district, a policeman has been killed and two jawans injured when militants fired at a group of security officers on patrol duty this morning. (Read)

The firing took place during a counter-insurgency operation launched by the security forces following information about the presence of militants in the area, said sources.
